| See? Do you see what can happen when Megan gets bored?
Its a start. Im trying to decide if I should make each road trip slideshow seperate, or if I should just combine them all. Hmmm....The 2nd half of the season slideshow will be up soon. This is just the games at the Cotton Bowl.
So, for your enjoyment...

| As I said in my last entry, Im going to be reviewing the movies I see from Netflix, so I figured Id start with the first one I saw: Lost in Translation.
Sofia Coppola, daughter of "Godfather" director Francis Ford Coppola, takes her first shot at filmmaking, and for a rookie, does a fairly decent job.
Set in Tokyo, Bill Murrays character, a washed up American actor doing a commercial stint in Japan, encounters a young girl (young enough to be his daughter) staying in Tokyo because her husband is a photographer. Both feel "stuck" in their lives. What starts as what seems as mild flirtation between the two, becomes a close friendship. Neither of them have anyone else there to connect with, so they confide with each other, sharing their deepest, darkest feelings. There is a slight sexual tension between Murray and Johanssen's characters, but neither act on it.
While I liked the interaction between the characters, and the in depth look at how a relationship (which is completely platonic) builds, I didnt feel connected to the characters themselves. Am I supposed to feel sorry for Johansenns Character, who feels stuck in a foreign country, with her husband off working. She chose this life, and when she made her vows she made the decision to go where her husband goes. Yet her pretentious attitude suggests that she was forced into this life, but theres no story to back it up. She looks down on others (such as the actress who is listed in the phonebook under a different name). She mocks others, even though she is far from perfect.
Murrays character is much the same. Am I supposed to feel sorry that his wife is nagging at him every time he gets the chance to talk to her for a few minutes during the day. She does have kids to take care of while her husband slugs through Japan, unsure of what he wants, or if he should act of Scarletts advances.
Both characters remain loyal to their spouses, showing that temptation can only go so far. They only wanted some company in this lonely world, something we all can relate to.
I didnt particuarly care for Copolas style. It seemed so much like a typical style of a film student who just graduated, wanting so desperately to be the exact opposite from the classic Hollywod style.
All in all, the movie can best be described as "Different". Not what you expect, but still somewhat enjoyable.

| Leftover quesadillas from El Fenix + Birthday Cake = YUM!
W.O.W. What a birthday weekend. Even though I had to work through a lot of it, it was still fantastic. Allow me to recap:
Friday February 24- Got my butt up at the crack of dawn for my dentist appointment at 8:30. They put in my permanent fake tooth, and it took much quicker than I had imagined. Since we were in Plano, and right next to Crescent City Beniets, we had some breakfast there. Yum! I went to work from 11-7, got home a bit late cause of Friday night customers, and me and Erik headed over to Addison to ElFenix. Lots of peeps there, laughed, and had an awesome time.
Saturday February 25 (My BIRTHDAY!) - After struggling to get some sleep (rain and thunder made the dog bark...all. night. long.), I overslept, then rushed off to work at 10. Erik called after about an hour and asked what kind of cake I would like, cookie or regular. Um, regular, DUH! He arrived about 15 minutes later with cake and my gift. Get this, he got me a diamond necklace. Yes, thats right. My boyfriend rocks. Yeah its great he got me some nice jewelry, but it was really great since I dont really have any. And it sparkles and is very, VERY nice. He took me out to lunch, and a few hours later, I got off of work. We werent too busy due to rain. Afterwards I got to talk to my Dad, Grandad and Beth on the Phone, and then Erik and I went out to dinner. Razoos. Yum. Me loveee the etoufee. Went home and watched some of "Life Is Beautiful". I started falling asleep, so I called my Mom to say Hi before I went to bed. It was a good day.
Sunday February 26 - Ahhh, I get to sleep in. Finally. Watched the rest of "Life is Beautiful". Awesome movie. Absolutely fantastic. I really should review some of these movies, since Im watching more and more of them. Anyway, Erik and I then headed over to the Galleria, hung out for a bit, then went off to curling. I watched. Then went to Pub Quiz, which with Jordan, Fernando, (Amy and Daniel for like 10 minutes), as well as Erik and I managed to get last. or 2nd to last. oh well, I answered a lot, more than I sometimes do. must be my wise age, hehe.
All in all, it was awesome. I have great friends, a great family, and an awesome boyfriend. Im no longer a teenager anymore. I have now delved into the world of 20 something. Wow. A new decade in life. Last decade I was in elementary school, middle school, high school, and had just started college. I went through puberty, first days of dating, and moved away from home. This next decade I plan to graduate college, get married, have a few kids, and gear myself up for the 30's. I get more and more excited about the days to come, I just can wait. | | |
